KARPATHOS ISLAND GREECE :DODECANESE ISLANDS
Karpathos is part of the Dodecanese complex, a pretty interesting tourist destination. The island is full of contrasts: some parts are overgrown, others are rocky and arid; the southern part has tourist facilities and is fairly well organized, while the north is more traditional with nice hospitable villages keeping intact the traditional way of living. The residents are occupied in agriculture, stock-breeding and tourism, an activity developing during the last years.
In is a destination offering sufficient facilities to the tourists who will choose the island for calm holidays in a beautiful environment with excellent beaches and good-natured hospitable people.
The villages of Karpathos form two circles, which make the tour of the island. Beginning from Pigadia you can follow the way up to Aperi, pass from Volada, continue to Othos following the mountainside of the highest mountain of the island, Lastos.
Then passing from Pyles the street starts to descend and leads to the west side of the island and towards the west coast side.
Following the road and passing through Foiniki, anglers' village, we enter the village of Arkasa and head to Menetes high up the mountain.
This is the last stop before we return to Pigadia and complete the small circle.
The longer circle excludes the villages Volada, Othos and Pyles. From Aperi instead of turning left to Volada, Othos and Pyles, the visitor can follow the road to the right and head to the north part of the island. He will surely enjoy the extraordinary view of the east part of the island having on his left impressive mountainsides and on his right the seaside.
Swimming to the beaches of Achata, Kato Lakos, Kyra Panagia, and well-known Apella will be an unforgettable experience! After this fascinating journey, the visitor will reach the beautiful village of Spoa.
